The 2021 City of Milwaukee Mildred L. Harpole Artist of the Year connects with the Milwaukee Art Museum as their inaugural artist of the Spotlight Sessions series, highlighting and facilitating creative collaboration between the museum and local Milwaukee artists. This original work was written, produced, and performed by Klassik, and filmed by Ted Brusubardis. The bulk of the video and the entirety of the audio was performed in one take.

AMERICAN KLASSIKS is Kellen “Klassik” Abston’s reinterpretation of American spirituals, hymns and anthems rooted in the honest and unabashed narrative of our common history. Klassik is joined by Johanna Rose in a duet rendition of Woody Guthrie’s “Ship In The Sky.” This performance is dedicated to Abston's late father, Robin Abston.
